I’m a little surprised to see I straight up forgot to do a reflections 2022 post in December 2022, so I’ll do a little summary right now, 7 months late.
[Interlude from 2025 – looks like I failed twice to reflect on 2022! Have this anyway]
European Vibe Weekender
2022 opened with the prospect of FINALLY running a Twitter meetup in real life. I chose the first possible weekend in Lisbon that would have -sunny weather and -reduced lockdown restrictions. I re-used the website I had ready to go but never used in 2020 for a similar meetup, and launched ticket sales.
So many people signed up I had to extend the 25-bed airbnb booking with another 6-person apartment on the same street, plus an organiser’s apartment too. 40 people came in total, and as well as being a dang good houseparty where people had many first time experiences, they also made friends and it changed their lives.
Unexpected, satisfying, “JessCamp” as it came to be known (thanks to my terrible name for it and thanks to the US counterpart party being called “VibeCamp”) was a great success.
At the end of the party I bundled all of my worldly possessions into my friend’s van and took the slow ferry home to England. I found people to take over the last couple of months of my lease in Lisbon, and I satisfied my powerful urge to go home and start yet another new chapter.
